Luxembourg Mayor Lydie Polfer has sent a letter to Prime Minister Luc Frieden demanding an urgent meeting to discuss the "unbearable" situation in the Gare neighbourhood. At the CityBreakfast press conference, she emphasised that the problems of the neighbourhood are not just a subjective perception, but a reality backed up by statistics.

Polfer said that most of the problems stem from the lack of consequences for offenders, RTL reported. She cited Attorney General Martine Solovieff, who noted at a New Year's reception that in two-thirds of cases investigations are closed without further action. "When the system allows this, it becomes difficult to talk about the rule of law," Polfer said.

The mayor recognised the efforts of the local police, but pointed out that without a follow-up response from official structures, their work becomes meaningless. "Residents see police action, but they don't see change. It's frustrating," explained Polfer.

In a letter to the prime minister, Polfer demanded the creation of a special working group with the participation of the interior and justice ministers to solve the problems comprehensively. Polfer stressed that analysing the situation and implementing effective measures is necessary to restore order and security in the Gahr district.

The critical situation in the Ghar neighbourhood demonstrates systemic problems in law enforcement, which undermines trust in the authorities. The solution requires not only police efforts, but also co-ordinated action at the government level.
