Ships stranded in Luxembourg have been provided with everything they need
After an accident at a lock in Müden (Germany), ship traffic on the Moselle River was partially paralysed, affecting the Luxembourg part of the water body as well. Seven cargo ships with 27 crew members were stranded, mainly in the port of Mertert.
Luxembourg Interior and Mobility Ministers Léon Gloden and Juriko Backes stressed that the situation is under control: the crews have been provided with everything they need and are free to go ashore. The Luxembourg authorities have not yet received any requests for assistance from the fire and rescue service or the public utilities.
The causes of the lock accident remain under German jurisdiction as the incident occurred on German territory. Any compensation will depend on the outcome of the investigation and subsequent decisions of the German courts.
