The Air Navigation Authority (ANA) has released its 2024 Environmental Report, summarising its sustainability initiatives for the period 2019-2023. The company has reduced its negative impact on the environment, including noise pollution, carbon emissions and the use of non-renewable resources.

Since 2023, ANA has fully switched to green electricity, saving 1,261 tonnes of CO₂. The replacement of lighting systems with LED lighting covered 78% of manoeuvring areas; full transition is expected by 2030.

ANA has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. The successful deactivation of all Non-Directional Beacons has reduced energy consumption and improved environmental efficiency.

Since 2020, the organisation has completely phased out single-use plastic, while continuing to adhere to the strict SuperDrecksKëscht® certification standards for precise waste management.

A key challenge remains the modernisation of infrastructure, including the outdated control tower, to integrate sustainable technologies. Additional measures are also needed to reduce noise complaints.

ANA's activities are aligned with the goals of the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement, demonstrating a global approach to reducing aviation's carbon footprint. Its success is an example for other organisations, but achieving ambitious targets by 2030 will require significant funding and collaboration with all stakeholders.
