Transport and Public Works Minister Yuriko Backes has revealed details of the ongoing upgrade of the CITA (Contrôle et Information du Trafic sur les Autoroutes) system responsible for traffic management on the country's motorways.

CITA, recognised as critical infrastructure, is responsible for:

  • Traffic and tunnel management.
  • Preventing and informing drivers of accidents.
  • Maintenance of communication networks and equipment on roads.

The Traffic Control Centre (CCT), integrated into CITA, coordinates the main tasks and ensures their implementation.

Two phases of modernisation

Maintaining functionality

The first phase of modernisation focuses on maintaining the current systems and software that support infrastructure management.

New functions and development

The second phase of the Vision stratégique CITA 2030 strategy includes the introduction of new technologies. Intelligent road panels are already being tested on the Micheville section.

Extensive motorway works are laying the groundwork for the introduction of advanced CITA features, which will make Luxembourg's roads even safer and more user-friendly.

The modernisation of CITA is a key step towards the digitalisation of Luxembourg's transport infrastructure management. The implementation of the strategic vision 2030 promises improved safety and efficiency.
