Ten years after winning the 2015 World Cup, the Luxembourg national table football (kicker) team is back in the international spotlight. At the 2025 World Cup in Zaragoza, they reached the final, where they lost in a tense battle to the USA, the acknowledged favourites for the tournament.
After a convincing victory over France in the semi-finals, the Luxembourgers went into the decisive meeting against the Americans. The match ended 10:7, 10:8, 10:2 and 10:8 - four sets in which Luxembourg fought to the end but could not turn the tide.
The team of Christophe Dias, Bruno Goncalves, Ricardo Rodrigues, Fabio Ferreira, Michael Correia, Carlos Ribeiro, Leonardo Stammera and Steve Dias showed experience, chemistry and a high standard. This is essentially the same group that brought gold to Luxembourg in 2015.
For Luxembourg, table football is not just a hobby. It is part of a tradition of café sport, respected in the country and supported at all levels. The team's regular successes abroad only reinforce this cultural component, making the kicker a source of national pride.
