The cycling summer is back: On 20 July 2025, the sixth edition of the Vëlosummer campaign, a major initiative to transform Luxembourg into a cycling paradise, will officially kick off at Place Saint-Michel in Mersch. This year's event covers 14 themed routes across the country, totalling more than 500 kilometres.

The opening will take place in a festive atmosphere: the day will also feature "Alles op de Vëlo", a folk cycling festival organised by the municipalities of Mersch, Mamer and Kopstal. The road between Mersch and Mamer will be completely closed to motorised vehicles so that participants can freely enjoy the ride.

The project has become particularly popular: more than 31,000 people took part in 2024. The organisers focus not only on sport, but also on tourism - each route leads to scenic spots, cultural monuments and natural attractions.

In 2025, the Vëlosummer Challenge is being organised again via the VisitLuxembourg app. Participants are invited to ride all 14 routes and answer questions at set points in order to receive a symbolic "yellow T-shirt" from the winner.

For convenience, bike hire is available along the routes - by appointment. Details, route maps and all practical information are available at www.velosummer.lu.

The initiative is under the auspices of the Luxembourg Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works and is becoming an important part of the country's sustainable tourism, reinforcing the culture of travelling without a car.
