The Chamber of Deputies approved GovSat-2 with 57 votes in favour, which the authorities interpret as confirmation of Luxembourg's willingness to strengthen its contribution to collective defence. The satellite will provide secure communications for EU and NATO partners around the world, continuing the functional line of GovSat-1. The Ministry of Defence also notes the economic component: the project should stimulate the national high-tech sector.

The construction will be carried out by France's Thales Alenia Space, and the launch into orbit in 2029 will be performed by the European Ariane rocket. Unlike GovSat-1, which was launched by SpaceX, this time the government is relying on European partners, emphasised Defence Minister Yuriko Backes. The project has been allocated €300 million, but the law allows for an increase in the budget to €500 million to cover risks and inflationary costs.
