The Luxembourg government has extended the temporary ban on drone flights in the Griffin zone. According to a decree of the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DAC), the restriction will be in force from 15 February to 30 September 2025.
All unmanned aerial vehicle (UAS) flights in the area are prohibited, with the exception of Luxembourg Air Ambulance S.A. drones used for medical missions.
The Griffin zone covers an area 800 metres wide along the medical drones' trajectory, as well as airspace from the ground up to 200 metres high.

While drone flights are generally prohibited, there are exceptions for operations in the public interest. In the Griffin area, they are allowed:
- Military, police and customs missions
- Traffic control and police harassment
- Search and rescue operations
- Medical flights and evacuations
- Firefighting
However, all special operations require prior co-ordination with Luxembourg Air Ambulance.
The ban is related to the safety of medical drones, which are used for the emergency delivery of medicines, blood and organs for transplantation. Similar restrictions have been applied in the past to avoid collisions with private drones.
