The Luxembourg government has confirmed that the POST outage on 23 July was the result of a high-tech cyberattack. This was announced on 25 July after a crisis headquarters meeting led by Economy Minister Lex Delles. POST representatives said that the attack did not lead to data leakage and did not affect internal systems, its purpose was to destabilise services.
Analysis of the incident is being coordinated by the High Commission for National Defence (HCPN) with the participation of ministries, intelligence services, the army, police, fire and rescue services, digital regulators and technical departments. The investigation is ongoing and the source of the attack has not yet been identified.
Authorities see the incident as a reason to review cybersecurity measures and strengthen the resilience of critical digital infrastructures. POST, as the largest telecom operator, remains at the centre of attention in shaping new digital security standards.
