Luxembourg's Findel Airport is ready to launch direct long-haul flights, including the long-awaited destination to the USA. This was reiterated by lux-Airport CEO Alexander Flassak, who emphasised: "We would be delighted to have a direct transatlantic line".

In an interview earlier in 2025, Flassac had already hinted at a geographical expansion from Findel, which now offers more than 120 destinations, but with a notable lack of direct flights outside Europe - with the exception of a route to Zhengzhou, China. He emphasises that from an infrastructure point of view, the airport is fully prepared to accommodate long-haul airliners: "It's not a question of principle, it's a question of timing".

Although the final decision depends solely on the airlines themselves, lux-Airport is in regular negotiations with potential operators - not only from the USA. The airport provides the companies with all the necessary information and support, but cannot influence the commercial decision.

Flassac is openly optimistic: "A line between Luxembourg and the US would be a great step. Personally, I would be delighted and of course we will do everything we can to support the launch of such a route."

Despite the enthusiasm, there is no real contract with US carriers yet. The problem is not the potential for demand, but the limited fleet of many airlines after the pandemic and the need to accurately calculate commercial viability. But the very fact that lux-Airport is actively working in this direction speaks of the country's mature ambitions to strengthen its international aviation role.
