Luxembourg's Minister of Mobility and Public Works Yuriko Backes participated in an informal meeting of EU transport ministers held in Warsaw on 17-18 March. The meeting was organised within the framework of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council and took place against the background of the aggravated geopolitical situation.

Discussions centred on the sustainability of EU transport systems and especially their adaptability to military mobility. As noted by Juriko Backes, Luxembourg has been working for several years to strengthen its transport networks in order to ensure fast and efficient logistics in case of military cargo and equipment movements.

The Minister emphasised: "Intelligent dual-use infrastructure is not only the basis for military resilience, but also a boon for civil society." As a transit country, Luxembourg intends to continue to actively support NATO's objectives and help strengthen European military transport corridors, she said.

Ministers also discussed cyber security in the transport sector. Attention was given to the continuous monitoring of vulnerabilities, the development of defence tools and the adaptation of digital systems in infrastructure management. The need for the security of digital systems to become an integral part of each Member State's transport strategy was emphasised.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Yuriko Backes held initial talks with the new French Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, and discussed co-operation with colleagues from Belgium (Jean-Luc Crucke) and Sweden (Andreas Carlson).
