As part of its road infrastructure renewal programme, the Luxembourg Directorate of Bridges and Roads (Administration des ponts et chaussées) has announced extensive repair work on the A4 motorway. From 8pm on Friday 27 June until 5am on Monday 30 June, traffic towards Luxembourg will be completely closed between the Esch junction and the Croix de Cessange.
The aim of the works is to completely renew the top layer of the road surface in this section. The authorities emphasise that carrying out the work at the weekend will minimise the impact on weekday traffic, but warned that significant congestion is possible in the area of preparation for the closure as early as Friday afternoon.
The motorway closure will require changes to familiar routes and will result in the temporary inaccessibility of several key entrances to the A4 towards the capital. The closures will be:
- exit from the A13 motorway from Bettamburg onto the A4 towards Luxembourg,
- entrances to the A4 from the Foetz, Pontpierre and Leudelange-Nord junctions.
Drivers exiting the A4 via the Esch or Foetz junction will have to use the A13, A3 and A6 bypass. Those planning to enter via Pontpierre or Leudelange-Nord will be diverted via regional roads CR169, N4 and N4A towards Croix de Gasperich.
Drivers are advised to plan their route in advance and monitor the traffic situation in real time. Detailed information on road closures, diversions routes and the current situation is available on the road surveillance website cita.lu.
