13th British and Irish Film Festival in Luxembourg
The festival opened on September 16th. The opening film was The Phantom of the Open. That name certainly shows a certain irony from the organizers. Last year and the year before that, the festival was held in a reduced format. All due to covid restrictions. Now for the first time in three years, the halls are 100% filled.
Film festival organizer Jeff Thompson has described the past couple of years as «interesting times» for filmmaking. Filming was delayed and canceled, but work on the scripts continued. Many films that were supposed to be released in 2020 or 2021 have just come out. And some haven’t even come out yet.
13 feature films and 2 short films will be shown at the festival. There will also be 3 events:
- Tuesday, September 20 — Business…Film Production workshop with Siun Ni Ragallai (former CEO of Ardmore Studios) after screening of Foscadh (The Shelter).
- Wednesday, September 21 — Hitchcock: Actor and Performer Seminar with Paul Lesh, Director of the National Center for the Audiovisual Industry (CNA).
- Thursday, September 22 — «Solidarity with Refugees» event with the screening of two short films: «From Iraq to Ukraine» and «Home from Home».
This year the showings will be split between two venues. Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg (Limpertsberg) and Cinémathèque in Luxembourg-Ville.
