Luxembourg has launched an organised operation to repatriate its citizens from the Middle East region. The first flight, operated by Luxair in close coordination with the government, departed from Muscat in Oman. There are 104 passengers on board, including seven children under the age of two.

Due to regulatory requirements for mandatory crew rest periods, the aircraft must make a technical stop in Hurghada, Egypt. This flight is expected to arrive in Luxembourg in the afternoon of 5 March 2026.

At the same time, the government organised a second flight — a direct charter from Muscat. It has already taken off and is scheduled to land in Luxembourg at approximately 13:30. There are 97 passengers on board.

The operation is continuing in cooperation with international partners, including Belgium. Luxembourg's defence forces are considering additional evacuation options using military aircraft. In particular, an MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) aircraft has already been deployed to Hurghada and is due to fly to Muscat to pick up passengers.

In addition, the national airline Luxair has sent a second non-commercial aircraft to Hurghada, which is also scheduled to fly to Muscat during the day. This creates an additional reserve for subsequent evacuation flights.

The operation is being coordinated jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Mobility, the Ministry of Defence and aviation partners, including Luxair. The main objective is to ensure the return of all Luxembourg citizens in the region.

Priority for boarding flights is determined by objective criteria established by the government and communicated to passengers. Families with children and people with confirmed medical conditions are evacuated first. The number of passengers on each flight depends on a number of factors, including the logistics of ground transportation by bus to Muscat Airport and the operational limitations of the airport itself.
