The rise of far-right movements in Europe, the influence of Donald Trump and Ilon Musk in the US, and the neoliberal course of European governments pose a real threat to workers' rights, said OGBL head Nora Back.
According to the union, we are living in an era of attacks on labour rights:
- In Europe, far-right parties are reducing social guarantees, weakening trade unions and increasing market competition at the expense of workers.
- In the US, Trump is destroying social programmes and cutting taxes for big corporations.
- Ilon Musk bans unions at Tesla and imposes harsh working conditions on his employees.
In Luxembourg, housing and living costs are rising, while large companies receive tax breaks. Under the pretext of "modernisation and competitiveness", the authorities are relaxing labour laws and putting pressure on the pension system.
To confront these threats, the OGBL and LCGB are creating a united trade union front. On 28 June 2025, they call for a national demonstration in defence of social justice, decent wages and a strong pension system.
