Night flight for alcohol: large shipment of alcohol from Luxembourg intercepted at the border
The пendarmes of the Val-de-Briey (Meurthe-et-Moselle) have detained a merchant from the Paris region who was involved in overnight trips to Luxembourg to buy alcohol. On Friday night, his van was stopped in the town of Landres with a large consignment of alcohol: 6,284 bottles of spirits - 401 boxes worth €54,000.
The detained man confessed that he had already made three flights between Luxembourg and La Courneuve. He claimed that he was acting on behalf of his employer and that his shop was on the verge of closing.
For individuals, there are strict limits on transporting alcohol for personal use:
- 10 litres of hard liquor;
- 20 litres of fortified drinks (porto, madera, vermouth);
- 90 litres of wine;
- 110 litres of beer.
Any volumes in excess of these standards are considered commercial consignment and require purchase documents.
The entire batch of alcohol will be sold at public auctions, with the proceeds going to the state budget. An investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the scheme and the involvement of others.
