For the first time in almost 10 years, a train ran on the Berlin-Paris route. This does not mean that there was no rail service between the capitals before. What was lacking was overnight service, which has been almost entirely replaced by air travel.

The new train leaves Berlin at 20:18 and arrives in Paris at 22:00, an event that politicians hope will revive the trend for slower but more environmentally friendly travel. The initiative has already received the support of the Greens as well as parliamentarians from various countries.

It is worth noting that the revival of sleeper trains has not only begun in Germany. In Paris, the Paris-Aurillac line has been reopened after 20 years of inactivity. Emmanuel Macron has expressed his desire to revive 10 other destinations by 2030. France has already invested 100 million euros in a project to restore the rail network.

Germany plans to expand its night train network to 13 major European cities. This will require a sound strategy and cooperation with national carriers. Whether Luxembourg will be on this list is not yet known, but the likelihood is high for several reasons. These include the convenience for cross-border workers and the importance of Luxembourg as Europe's financial center.
