Most passport strength rankings consider only one factor — the number of countries with visa-free travel. However, the consulting firm Nomad Capitalist went a bit further and added several other indicators to this parameter. As a result, Switzerland took the top spot, while Luxembourg maintained its position in the top five.
The key indicators used to assess the strength of the passport were:
- Visa-free travel opportunities: affects 50% of the final grade.
- Taxation: affects 20% of the final valuation.
- Global perception: influences 10% of the final grade.
- Ability to obtain dual citizenship: affects 10% of final grade.
- Personal freedom: Influences 10% of the final grade.
The order of the leaders is as follows:
- Switzerland, 109 points.
- Ireland, 108.5 points.
- Portugal, 107.5 points.
- Luxembourg, 107 points.
- Finland, 107 points.
Last year, the United Arab Emirates was the top country, but after a change in the country's tax policy, the Emirates dropped to 6th place, which it shares with Germany, Norway, and other countries. Luxembourg remains in the top 5, sharing its place with Finland. The final 199th place is occupied by Afghanistan.
