The gas price in Europe has dropped below 50 euros
For the first time in 18 months, the gas exchange price has dropped this low. Compared to the peak in August, when the fuel costed more than 300 euros, the drop now is calculated at 85%.
It is the result of several factors. First, the mild weather helped to save money on heating. Second, people began to use significantly fewer resources than before. Thirdly, industries were able to switch to economy or alternative energy sources without significant losses in volume.
Even now, Europe's gas storage facilities are 65% full, which is well above the mid-February average. Analysts predict that the EU will meet this and next winter fully prepared.
However, prices will not return to pre-covid levels. The current drop has occurred contrary to the EU's previous statements, but they are sure the next winter will not be a threat to the alliance countries. However, the cheapness is likely to spur demand and the price will settle.
