Disposable packaging remains in Luxembourg

A cabinet meeting on Friday decided to postpone the introduction of a number of environmental measures relating to waste management.
Originally due to come into force on 1 January 2025, but now postponed:
- Until 1 January 2027 - with the option to use containers brought by the customer.
- Or until 1 January 2028 - with a mandatory offer of a reusable alternative, but retaining the option of disposable containers.
Mandatory use of reusable containers at events:
- To be introduced from 1 January 2026 (one year later than planned).
- Exceptions are made for sporting events to allow the use of disposable materials.
Postponement allows businesses and event organisers to adapt to new requirements and to develop convenient and cost-effective solutions. These measures aim to reduce waste, but take into account the needs of business and society in transition.
