The new Wero payment system, developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), is gradually being rolled out across Europe. After being introduced in Germany, France and Belgium, it will be available to Luxembourg bank customers in the coming years. The project participants include Spuerkeess (BCEE), BIL, BGL BNP Paribas, Post Luxembourg and Raiffeisen Luxembourg.

Despite the active participation of banks, the full launch of Wero in Luxembourg is not planned until the end of 2025 at the earliest, with Post Luxembourg targeting early 2026. Until then, EPI will conduct integration phases, pilot projects and system testing.

Wero is a digital wallet that will become the European analogue of such popular services as PayPal or Apple Pay. Its goal is to unite bank payments in the EU countries, offering a convenient and universal tool for transactions. The project is aimed at increasing the autonomy of European payment systems and reducing dependence on American and Chinese technologies.

The introduction of Wero will strengthen Luxembourg's financial infrastructure by providing local bank customers with access to modern European payment solutions. The system promises to be more secure and compliant with European privacy standards, which is important for residents of the Grand Duchy, known for its strong financial industry.
