Luxembourg airport could pass the 5 million passenger mark in 2024
According to ACI Europe, Europe's main airport association, the number of passengers at Luxembourg's airports increased by 16.9% in June 2024 compared to the same period in 2019. In the EU, only airports in Poland (+24.5%), Greece (+23.9%) and Malta (+19.1%) have a higher dynamic.
"This year, Luxembourg Airport is expected to exceed 5 million passengers for the first time in its history. This is up from 4.79 million in 2023 and 4.4 million in 2019. In May 2024, more than half a million passengers passed through in one month, a record in the airport's history," said operator Lux-Airport.
According to ACI Europe statistics, total passenger traffic at European airports was up 9% in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, and up 0.4% compared to the same period five years ago. Despite the successful recovery, ACI Europe warns of a "highly uneven" recovery, with roughly equal numbers of winners and losers among airports and airlines.
Albania boasts the most impressive growth in terms of passenger numbers in June 2024 compared to the same month in 2019 (+243%, thanks to the strong introduction of low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Wizz Air).
