Real household consumption per capita increased by 0.8% in the euro area
According to Eurostat, in the third quarter of 2024, real per capita expenditure of households in the euro area and the EU increased by 0.8%. At the same time, real income per capita increased by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU.
In the third quarter of 2024, nominal disposable household income grew by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU. The main drivers of growth were increases in wages and social benefits. At the same time, taxes and social contributions had a negative impact.
The household savings rate decreased by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU compared to the previous quarter. Individual countries such as Greece saw an increase in the savings rate (+1.9%), while Hungary (-5.6%) and Denmark (-2.4%) recorded significant decreases.
The level of household investment also decreased by 0.1% in both the euro area and the EU. Among EU countries, Denmark (+0.5%) recorded the largest increase in investment, while Spain (-0.3%) and Italy (-0.2%) showed declines.
