This year's Carnival in Diekirch, organised by the association Eselen aus der Sauerstad Dikrich A.S.B.L., once again confirmed its status as the region's biggest festival. Under clear skies and temperatures of around nine degrees Celsius, thousands of people in colourful costumes filled the streets of the city. The atmosphere of joy and friendly fun reigned everywhere - participants danced, drank and socialised, creating a truly festive mood.
The main event of the day was a large carnival procession with 25 floats. The procession started at half past three in the afternoon and lasted more than three hours. Each platform was the result of months of preparation, and the festivities included not only local groups, but also representatives from Belgium and Germany. The organisers estimated the number of visitors at around 40,000, based on ticket sales.
The carnival has attracted many new visitors, but its real magic lies in the regular participants who return year after year. For Diekirch, it is not just a local celebration, but a cultural symbol that unites the townspeople and creates lasting traditions. In difficult times, this celebration is a reminder of the importance of unity and the joy it brings to the residents.
In Diekirch, the day is widely regarded as the most important day of the year and carnival is an event that unites generations.
