On Wednesday, the Luxembourg City Film Festival team led by President Georges Santer, Luxembourg Mayor Lydie Polfer, Culture Minister Éric Thill and Film Fund Luxembourg Director Guy Daleiden presented the programme for the 15th anniversary edition of the festival, which will take place from 6 to 16 March 2025.

The festival has attracted 313,000 spectators since its inception, and this year's programme promises to be one of the most intense yet. This year, the Cinémathèque du Luxembourg is welcoming guests for the last time before a four-year renovation, which adds to the significance of the event.

Among the festival's guests of honour are Spanish-Chilean director Alejandro Amenábar and American actor Tim Roth, who will give master classes.

The international jury will be chaired by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof and will include Spanish auteur Albert Serra, Luxembourg director Jeff Desom, Ken Loach's screenwriter Paul Laverty and actresses Trine Dyrholm and Valérie Pachner.

The festival will open with Rebecca Lenkiewicz's Hot Milk, a film presented at the Berlinale, starring Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw and Vicky Krieps.

The awards ceremony will feature Lionel Baier's La Cache with Michel Blanc and the festival will close with Dylan Southern's The Thing With Feathers with Benedict Cumberbatch.

The programme includes high-profile world premieres and winners of major festivals. Among the main films:

  • "Good One" India Donaldson - хит Sundance 2024
  • "Hard Truths" by Mike Leigh - premiering at TIFF.
  • "Une langue universelle" by Matthew Rankin is an Oscar contender.
  • "Oxana" by Charlène Favier is a biographical drama about Feminin
  • "The Wailing" is the winner of the Gerardmer Festival.

Audiences will also see Désirée Nosbusch's directorial debut Poison, while the most star-studded films include Christopher Andrews' Bring Them Down with Barry Keoghan and Uberto Pasolini's The Return with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.

The Immersive Pavilion will take place from 6-23 March and will showcase 12 VR projects, including Oto's Planet.

This year's children's programme set a record for participation, with over 6,000 children registering for the special screenings.

Luxembourg City Film Festival 2025 promises to be the biggest ever, bringing together world cinema, educational projects and star guests.
