At the Schueberfouer fair in Luxembourg on Tuesday evening, an unusual action will take place: 52 mayors from all over the country will change their offices into restaurant halls for a few hours. From 19:00 to 22:00 they will serve guests in 17 venues at the fair, turning a traditional dinner into a charitable gesture.
This tradition has been in place for many years and has become one of the hallmarks of the fair. Each of the mayors will receive a notional earnings of €5,000, which will be donated in its entirety to the Luxembourg Red Cross.
The organisers emphasise that this is a chance for the guests not only to meet their mayor in an unfamiliar role, but also to communicate with representatives of neighbouring municipalities in an informal setting.
