Vivre ensemble au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg" courses are gaining popularity
In response to a parliamentary enquiry, the Minister of Education, Claude Meisch, presented statistics on attendance at courses for Luxembourg nationality over the past three academic years. These courses are an important element of integration, helping candidates to master key knowledge of the culture and life in the country.
Courses are organised in four languages: German, French, Luxembourgish and English. Although English is not the official language of the country, its addition helps to attract more participants due to its international popularity.
Dynamics of attendance by year:
- 2021/2022: 3710 participants
- 2022/2023: 3840 participants
- 2023/2024: 4296 participants
The total number of trainees over the three years was 11,846.
English has shown a steady increase in popularity, with English courses reaching 2,339 participants in 2023/2024, almost double the number who chose French (1,665) or German with Luxembourgish (292).
The organisation of the courses is regulated by the law of 8 March 2017 on nationality and the royal decree of 7 April 2017. Courses are available without prerequisites, ensuring accessibility for all candidates who have lived in Luxembourg for more than five years.
The Minister stressed that needs analyses are conducted regularly, allowing the number of classes and available languages to be adapted to changing demand.
