The flu epidemic has arrived in Luxembourg
The seasonal wave of respiratory tract infections, including influenza and COVID-19, has intensified in Luxembourg. The Directorate of Health has provided the latest data.
The number of reported flu cases has shown a rapid increase over the past five weeks:
- Week 47: 60 cases.
- Week 48: 114 cases.
- Week 50: 375 cases.
- Week 51: 745 cases (99% increase for the week).
Among the typed cases, 82% were influenza A, of which the subtypes were distributed as follows: 46% A(H1)pdm9 and 54% A(H3). The Ministry of Health confirms the start of the annual wave and emphasises the need for vaccination.
During the week of 16-22 December 2024, the number of COVID-19 cases increased by 11%, from 98 to 109. This increase remains within a moderate trend, but requires continued surveillance.
The Ministry of Health reminds about preventive measures:
- Vaccination remains a key measure to prevent influenza and its complications.
- Observing hand hygiene and using disposable handkerchiefs.
- Avoiding contact, especially in crowded areas.
- Regular ventilation of the premises.
- Staying home when you have symptoms of illness.
These measures not only protect themselves but also reduce the burden on the health system during epidemics.
