Athletes suspected of assault with edged weapons in Luxembourg
On the night of Saturday to Sunday in Luxembourg, on Avenue Fajanseri in the district of Limpersberg, a fight took place outside a nightclub, resulting in three people being injured with edged weapons. The victims were taken to hospital and their lives are out of danger. The police quickly apprehended two suspects who attempted to flee the scene.
The prosecutor's office said it has opened an investigation into charges of attempted murder or intentional bodily harm.
According to RTL sources, the detainees were two American basketball players:
- Londell King, 27, a US Heffingen player, is from Morehead State University (Kentucky).
- Leon Ayers III, 24 years old, player of Residence Walferdange, points leader in the Luxembourg Total League.
Londell King is in custody while Leon Ayers III is under judicial control. The Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the investigation was ongoing and recalled the principle of presumption of innocence.
Leon Ayers III, originally from Troy, Michigan, became the league's top scorer in Luxembourg in a short period of time. Londell King, who was raised in American basketball education, has considerable experience in playing the power forward position.
The incident has attracted public attention because of the involvement of well-known athletes, raising questions about their future careers and possible sanctions from clubs and the federation.
The case intensifies discussions about the behaviour of professional athletes off the court. The issues of their responsibility and discipline are becoming more and more relevant, especially against the background of high-profile incidents.
