On Wednesday morning, residents of Esch-sur-Alzette witnessed a real water spectacle: on Avenue de la Gare, a powerful fountain of water soared into the sky from a construction site, reaching up to the first floor of a neighbouring building. Photos and videos taken by eyewitnesses quickly went viral on social media.

As confirmed by the city hall, the accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. when a contractor damaged an underground water pipe during excavation work. An eyewitness who reported the leak to RTL said he heard a loud bang, after which he was literally "covered from head to toe in water".

Municipal technical services promptly arrived at the site and had already eliminated the breach by 12:30. Despite the spectacular situation, water supply in the city was not disrupted - only a few houses nearby could temporarily experience minor interruptions. No leaks in the system were detected, emphasised the press service of the mayor's office.

Residents of the area were informed of the incident in a timely manner, and utilities continue to monitor the condition of the networks.
