On Sunday evening, a 32-year-old Luxembourg national was detained at a restaurant in the ski resort of Ischgl (Ischgl, Tyrol, Austria) after he tried to pay his bill with fake 50-euro notes.

The staff quickly suspected counterfeiting and called the police. During the search, the man was found to be in possession of 300 euros in counterfeit banknotes. The police suspected that he might have even more counterfeit money and obtained permission to search his home.

As a result, a further €1250 in counterfeit notes was found, bringing the total amount to €1550. The suspect pleaded guilty and the case will be referred to the Innsbruck prosecutor's office after the investigation is completed.

Police have not yet clarified whether the man was distributing counterfeit money or using it solely for personal use.
