Luxair flight LG6992 from Milan to Luxembourg on 1 April 2025 was forced to make an emergency landing in Geneva due to an oil leak from the right engine. Only two days later, on Wednesday, the carrier confirmed the true cause of the incident, having previously described the landing as a "precautionary measure within safety standards".

There were 69 passengers on board. The aircraft left Milan at 8:40am, but soon changed its route and headed for Switzerland. Luxair emphasises that at no point during the flight were the lives of the passengers endangered and they all arrived safely in Luxembourg that evening.

However, passenger testimonies obtained by RTL journalists point to a more alarming picture. According to one of them, the pilot announced in-flight a loss of oil in the right engine and a reduction in power, and the aircraft was met by fire brigades on arrival in Geneva. Through the porthole, passengers allegedly saw the starboard side "all yellow with oil".

The same passenger claimed that signs of the leak were visible even before boarding - drops of oil were visible during boarding, but staff attributed them to "condensation". He also complained about poor communication from the airline after the incident, long delays before boarding and the lack of any compensation.

In response to RTL's direct requests, both by phone and in writing, Luxair representatives declined to comment on specific passenger allegations.
