On Friday 25 April 2025, a visit to the picturesque Lake Echternach turned into a shocking incident for one of the visitors. On returning from her walk, the woman found her van standing not on its wheels, but on neatly stacked bricks. All four wheels - along with tyres and rims - had been stolen without a trace.

According to the police, the theft report has been officially registered and an investigation has already been launched. So far, the incident appears to be an isolated case: there have been no reports of other similar thefts in nearby car parks.

Lake Echternach is one of the popular destinations for holidaymakers in Luxembourg, known for its tranquil scenery and safe atmosphere. However, this case is a reminder that even in the quietest of places, crime can sometimes occur, disturbing the usual idyll.

The fact that the thieves were so methodical - removing all the wheels, carefully propping the car up with bricks - indicates a well-prepared operation. Thefts like this take time, equipment and probably car park surveillance.

Although this incident is still an isolated incident, it raises the question of the safety of car parks in Luxembourg's tourist destinations. Especially during periods of high traffic, increased patrols or the installation of surveillance cameras could be an effective measure to prevent similar incidents in the future.
