Luxembourg's Catholics value Christmas more than New Year's Eve, so the festive fairs start appearing here at the end of November, so that by 21 December they have already opened their doors and attracted the maximum number of visitors.

Centre of Luxembourg

Traditionally, most activity is expected in the centre, as the metropolitan area attracts the largest number of tourists and locals each year.

Winterlights, 21 November - 4 January

Winterlights is one of the most memorable and famous festivals. During Winterlights, Luxembourg's capital is transformed into a glittering winter kingdom. Visitors can stroll the festively decorated streets, visit the Christmas markets at Place d'Armes, Place de la Constitution and Place de Paris, enjoy ice-skating in Kinnekswiss Park and admire the new Sapin Royal Christmas tree at Place Émile Hamilius. The programme includes handmade gifts, traditional treats, concerts, exhibitions and family entertainment including Winterkids. Getting to the centre is convenient thanks to public transport and intercepted parking.

Wanterflair, 6 - 21 December

A cosy family market in the Communal Park of Hesperange. Food courts, festive goods, crafts and an entertainment programme await you. There are also themed evenings planned before and after the main fair, such as dances and fondue evenings.

Vegan Xmas Market, 6 - 7 December

In honour of its tenth anniversary, the Luxembourg Vegan Society is once again holding a two-day Christmas market with entirely plant-based food and drink. The market is open from 12pm to 8pm on 6 December, and from 11am to 6pm on 7 December.

Christmas Fair in Mersch, 29 November - 1 December

Around 45 wooden chalets will offer handmade crafts and treats on the first weekend of Advent. The opening begins on 29 November with the arrival of St Nicholas and a procession to the square. At 6pm there is a festive opening with songs by school children and sweet gifts for children. The programme for children includes shows with Mickey Mouse and school performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Christmas Fair in Differdange, 5 - 21 December

Luxembourg's oldest Christmas market is celebrating its 48th anniversary. There is a free carousel for children, traditional delicacies, festive crafts and live music.

Christmas Fair in Dudelange, 22 November - 14 December

Dudelange offers two different Christmas markets at once. One is classic, with delicacies and decorations, the other is traditional and artisanal, with 60+ stands. They will be located at Place Am Duerf and Place de l'Hôtel de Ville respectively.

Christmas Fair in Esch-sur-Alzette, 14 November - 21 December

One of the earliest fairs of the season is already in full swing. There are 24 pavilions with food and drink, as well as live music in the spacious and festively decorated square.

Christmas Fair in Petange, 27 - 30 November

The fair in Petange is suitable for those who do not like big crowds. A small and cosy market for those who appreciate a quiet atmosphere awaits you at the Place John F. Kennedy. Here you can find handmade gifts, festive treats and other surprises.

Christmas Fair in Bascharage, 5-7 December

The main feature of this place is the music programme: from a local school to professional musicians. In addition, of course, Christmas treats, hot drinks and a homely holiday atmosphere await you at Place Claus Cito.

Christmas fair in Clervaux, 7 December

From 28 November to 1 December the town is decorated with lights, and the market itself opens on 7 December. However, the Christmas season will include meetings with sportsmen and the Fairytale Street exhibition

Ettelbruck Christmas Fair, 12 December

Festive market with concerts and street shows. Ideal place for pre-Christmas shopping and family holidays.

Christmas Fair in Diekirch, 19 - 21 December

The final fair of the season in a cosy, pedestrianised part of the city. Local products, music and a cultural programme await you.

As you can see, almost every major regional centre can boast its own Christmas fair. Their small number is due to the compactness of Luxembourg. In such circumstances, it is much more profitable and convenient to hold relatively large festivals in the centres of greatest attraction than to focus on each small town.
