Against a background of rising living costs and increasing social demands, the OGBL and LCGB unions have signed a new collective convention with the Fédération des Entreprises de Nettoyage, covering some 14,000 employees in the cleaning sector. This three-year contract has become a kind of "insurance" for workers in the face of economic turbulence.
The main achievement of the agreement was the agreement to increase wages linearly by 2.7 per cent over the life of the convention. This measure aims to preserve the purchasing power of employees, while inflation remains one of the main threats to European household budgets. Importantly, the wage increase is provided for all employees without exception - thus the structure of the increase avoids dilution of real income due to the bonus system or individual agreements.
The new collective convention also includes a positive innovation: the introduction of an extra day of leave for long service. This symbolic gesture is important in the social culture of Europe, where long dedication to one profession is increasingly being recognised in concrete terms, not only verbally but also in working rights.
The text of the agreement pays special attention to clarifying labour regimes - the rhythm and distribution of working hours. For the cleaning industry, where non-standard schedules such as night shifts and split hours often prevail, clarity on this issue is critical to protect workers' rights and minimise labour disputes.
