How Luxembourg plans to retain talent
On 4 December 2024, the second meeting of the Higher Committee for Talent Attraction, Retention and Development was chaired by Luxembourg's Minister of Economy, Lex Delles. This structure, created by coalition agreement, brings together representatives of key ministries, chambers of commerce and experts to develop strategies to strengthen Luxembourg's position as a centre for international careers.
One of the main topics of discussion was the creation of a portal for international talent, scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2025. This portal will be a digital platform for professionals interested in working in Luxembourg, providing resources for integration, job information and relocation advice.
Talent attraction expert Steve Duncan presented three studies to the committee:
- Product Research: a comparative analysis of the strategies of other European countries.
- Perception Research: exploring how Luxembourg is perceived by talent from France, Portugal, China and India.
- Promotional Strategy: recommendations for international promotion of the country.
Special attention was paid to supporting employers. The development of the Employers Toolkit, a set of tools for companies, especially SMEs, will make it easier for them to attract skilled labour from abroad.
Lex Delles noted that the development of the national economy is impossible without an influx of professionals from various fields: "We aim to create an environment that is attractive not only for work, but also for life. Innovative approaches and tools, such as the portal, will play a key role in achieving this goal".
The next committee meeting is scheduled for spring 2025 to discuss the outcome of current initiatives and next steps.
