This is the conclusion reached by analysts at the World Economic Forum after studying labor market trends. It is expected that by the end of the year there will be 73 million remote jobs in the world, and in just 5 years — about 90 million.

This trend has a logical explanation. Working remotely not only allows employees to use their time more efficiently and not spend it traveling to the office but also allows them to work from almost anywhere in the world. For governments, it is an opportunity to solve part of the problem of skills shortages.

This is an optimistic view, based on the idea that several hundred occupations (more than 200) will be digitized and can switch to a remote format. However, countries are already trying to create comfortable conditions for remote workers.

According to the same study, working remotely in Europe is now the most convenient. Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Estonia, Lithuania, Ireland, and Slovakia lead the way. However, Luxembourg was not among the top ten countries. The Grand Duchy was ranked 27th.

The country was badly let down by indicators such as cybersecurity (37th) and economic security (53rd). However, in terms of digital and physical infrastructure development, Luxembourg ranked a respectable 7th. The result in the social security category is no less outstanding: 9th in the world.

7th place
on digital and physical infrastructure
9th place
on social safety

Digital infrastructure includes the ability to provide high-speed broadband Internet access, while physical infrastructure includes the ability to travel comfortably and safely. As for social security, it is a combination of reliability, security, access, and guarantee of human rights.

It is also worth noting that Luxembourg has excellent indicators in the area of risk. Here they are almost the lowest not only in Europe but also in the world, offering employees a comfortable and healthy environment.
