Unemployment in Luxembourg is rising again
By the end of November 2024, the number of registered unemployed in Luxembourg was 18,625, an increase of 6.8% compared to November 2023. The unemployment rate calculated by STATEC has risen to 5.9%.
The increase mainly affected people over 30, those looking for work for more than 7 months, and professionals with higher education.
Areas with the largest increase in unemployment:
- Transport services.
- Cooking.
- Information Technology.
- Banking sector.
The number of recipients of full unemployment benefit increased by 11.3% to 10,533.
There were 2,535 vacancies in November, the same level as a year earlier, but the total number of jobs available fell by 16.3% year-on-year to 6,140. The IT, banking and construction sectors were hardest hit.
In November, 2,664 people were registered, which is 5.2% less than in 2023. Among them 83 refugees from Ukraine with temporary protection.
The number of participants in employment programmes increased by 4.3% to 4,395. This indicates an attempt to mitigate the effects of the crisis in the labour market.
