Europe reduces gas consumption by 22%, saves on heating

One of the factors that made it possible to reduce gas consumption is that many households began to seriously save on heating. It was them, as well as businesses and small industrial sector consumers, who made the largest contribution to the 22% savings.

Earlier this year, EU governments asked the region’s residents to conserve energy due to possible heating and electricity blackouts in winter. But it is unlikely that such results could be achieved by simply politely asking citizens to reduce gas consumption. In addition to the prudence of European consumers, other factors also played a role. Autumn in Europe turned out to be very warm, and gas prices are steadily creeping up, prompting people to use less heating.

Despite savings and reduced gas consumption, according to experts, next year the EU will face a serious shortage. And if this deficit will be covered by gas purchases in previously unpopular markets, then developing countries like Thailand and Pakistan will enter the risk zone instead.
