European Public Prosecutor's Office confiscates 147.3 million euros and triples its budget

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is one of the youngest state bodies in the EU. It was established in June 2021 with headquarters in Luxembourg. Its main task is the investigation of corruption- and fraud-related crimes. In the first half of 2021, the prosecutor’s office confiscated 147.3 million euros from violators, which tripled its budget.

The structure of the department allows to quickly and efficiently investigate cases that span across European borders. For example, recent investigations on fraud acquainted the state prosecutors with the Italian agricultural industry. Current cases also include favoritism in Croatia and fraudulent purchases in Latvia. One of the cases initiated by the EPPO is generally estimated to be worth 546 480 euros in damages.
