Gas supplies via Nord Stream frozen until September 3, fuel prices in Europe still rising

Today, on August 31, Gazprom stopped gas supplies via Nord Stream for maintenance work on a compressor. Gas will once again flow to Europe on September 3rd. Supply was stopped amid rising prices in the region and the approaching autumn.

Representatives of the company claim that diagnostics and repairs must be carried out after every 1000 hours of compressor operation. Germany, however, has quite openly accused Gazprom and the Kremlin of trying to use gas as a weapon again.

After repair work, gas will again go through the pipe — 20% of the usual volume. Russia has been supplying gas to Europe this way since July, after the previous repairs.

Despite a supplies cut, Europe is now in a better position in terms of energy security. Gas storage facilities in the region are 79.9% full on average. And some countries, such as Germany, have already filled them 100%.

At the same time, energy consumption across the bloc is reduced. All European countries are preparing for cold autumn and winter, including Luxembourg.
