The Luxembourg Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the association Sécurité Routière and the Saint-Hubert Federation of Hunters of Luxembourg, has launched an information campaign dedicated to increasing the vigilance of all road users during the paddock hunting period, which runs from 18 October to 31 January 2026.

At this time, it is particularly important to reduce speed and be careful on sections of road through forested areas and in places where "Chasse en cours / Vorsicht Treibjagd" ("Hunting in progress") signs are posted. Such signs indicate a high risk of wild animals or hunting dogs appearing on the road.

What to do when encountering a wild animal:

If you're driving:

  • slow down
  • honk your horn and turn on your dipped beam.
  • Don't forget: animals often move in groups and may run over each other repeatedly.

At risk of collision:

  • brake hard
  • don't try to avoid the animal
  • keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, drive straight ahead.

If a collision has occurred:

  • sound the alarm
  • wear a reflective waistcoat
  • put up an emergency stop sign
  • call the police
  • Do not approach the animal - it may be injured and dangerous

If you are a pedestrian or cyclist:

  • Avoid walking in areas where penned hunting is taking place - such places are marked with special warning signs.
  • dates and places of hunts can be viewed on the website: www.geoportail.lu

When encountering an animal:

  • stay calm, don't panic.
  • maintain eye contact
  • back away slowly without turning around.
  • If you have a dog with you, keep it on a lead and use caution

The campaign will be shared on radio, social media and on buses on the RGTR network.
