Ministry of Education owes teachers 155 thousand euros

Thirty-five «external employees», teachers hired by schools due to lack of staff last year, have still not received their salaries for the second and third trimesters on the job. In general, the Ministry of Education owes them about 155,000 euros.

Presumably, the Ministry of Education cannot pay them due to a banal lack of money in the budget. The new budget will be approved only after the summer holidays. This means that teachers will have to wait until October to get paid for their work.

The reason is simple — because of the war in Ukraine, many refugee children arrived in the country. The ministry expanded classes and hired more staff. As a result, the money in the annual budget ran out much earlier than expected.

We’ve recently reported that teachers in Luxembourg are among the highest paid in the world. But it seems that not everyone can get their high salary on time.
