No "death tourism" in Luxembourg

This eerie name was invented for people who come to countries where euthanasia is allowed. Dr Maurice Graf, one of the doctors in Luxembourg who works with euthanasia and palliative care, notes that only Switzerland, not Luxembourg, can be called by this name.

In fact, the Grand Duchy has a high level of medical care available to both citizens and expatriates. And euthanasia is no exception, but voluntarily taking one's own life is not the same as buying headache pills in a pharmacy. There are a number of complexities involved, and they don't even lie in the bureaucracy.

The fact is that the doctors who perform the lethal procedure must communicate very closely with the patient to confirm that the decision is made voluntarily, consciously, without threats, blackmail, or outside pressure. Usually people who are suffering unbearably from oncology or other incurable diseases resort to this extreme measure.

Such communication with the doctor lasts for several months. It will not be possible to make an appointment with a doctor in another country and receive the service in Luxembourg — the attending doctor must have a license of the Grand Duchy. This is the main difficulty for foreigners. This is the main advantage of the country, because this terrible but sometimes necessary procedure is taken seriously here.
