Will there be another tax increase in Luxembourg and who will it affect?
The Citizens’ Climate Council has proposed raising the pollution tax. It also prepared a number of other measures in this area.
In addition to direct taxes, the council has also introduced a set of measures to help reduce the carbon footprint. First of all, it recommends reducing meat consumption. The agricultural industry is considered one of the most environmentally-influencing industries. Raising beef cattle requires a large amount of water, the shortage of which was acutely felt this year.
The Council also proposes to create sections for products with a low carbon footprint in stores. Another proposal was to reduce deforestation, as this affects the accumulation of greenhouse gases.
Other proposals included: switching to renewable energy sources, working from home and building zero-energy buildings. But at the head of everything is conscious consumption and the responsibility of all citizens.
