On 5 February 2025, within the framework of his official visit to Luxembourg, President of the National Assembly of Armenia Alan Simonyan held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel.
During the meeting, the sides noted the dynamic development of bilateral relations. Bettel underlined that the opening of Armenia's diplomatic representation in Luxembourg a year ago allowed activating cooperation in political and economic spheres.
The talks centred on the situation in the South Caucasus. Xavier Bettel reaffirmed that Luxembourg is in favour of a peaceful and diplomatic settlement of disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries.
The relations between Armenia and the European Union were also discussed, in particular the new EU-Armenia strategic partnership programme aimed at deepening cooperation in such spheres as energy, trade and transport infrastructure.
Alain Simonyan expressed gratitude to Luxembourg for the participation in the EU Mission to Armenia (EUMA), within the framework of which a Luxembourg police officer is working in the country.
The sides also discussed Luxembourg's chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which will start in 2025. This post will enable Luxembourg to strengthen dialogue with partners and contribute to the consolidation of European democratic values.
The outcome of the meeting confirms the desire of Luxembourg and Armenia to expand economic, political and diplomatic co-operation, as well as to find stable solutions for the South Caucasus.
