Respiratory infections could spoil the holiday season in Luxembourg
During the last week of November, 84 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Luxembourg, an increase of 17% compared to the previous week. Despite the low number of cases, the viral variant KP.3, known for its high contagiousness, remains dominant. Its symptoms, fortunately, remain mostly mild.
The number of flu cases has increased significantly, from 60 to 110 in eight days. According to the Ministry of Health, 78% of the reported cases are influenza A and 22% are influenza B. Such a surge is cause for concern, especially in the run-up to the winter cold.
There has been a serious increase in cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is particularly dangerous for young children and the elderly. The number of confirmed cases rose by 80% during the week, from 66 to 119.
Health professionals recommend a focus on prevention: vaccination, hygiene and protection of vulnerable groups.
