For 49 consecutive years, young farmers and members of the rural youth association in Luxembourg have been meeting for the Ascension Day Landjugenddag. The day brings together not so much tradition as a sense of community - through sport, play, friendship and informal socialising in nature.

In 2025, around 1,500 participants travelled to Beringen, near Mersch, where another celebration took place, this time organised by the central regional office. The main event of the day was the usual but unique scavenger hunt. This year 200 teams overcame a nine-kilometre route full of riddles, stations with tasks and surprises - all with the aim not to achieve results, but to enjoy the process.

The festival not only strengthens social ties between young people from rural areas, but also plays an important role in renewing and transferring leadership within the movement. This year's event marked Jil Thorn's first day as president of the Association of Rural Youth and Young Farmers of Luxembourg, succeeding Marthe Bourg. This event highlighted the continuity and sustainability of the organisation, which remains the core of the rural youth community.

The members of the association represent youth clubs from rural areas and young farmers who have already started their own activities or are preparing to take over their family farms. Maintaining and expanding social ties between them is a key goal of the movement, and the Rural Youth Day provides an ideal platform for this.

Almost half a century later, Landjugenddag remains more than just a holiday - it is a social institution where, through play and joint efforts, a new generation of farmers, citizens and friends is formed, for whom the countryside is not only a place of residence, but also a source of strength, community and prospects.
