The TICE transport union in Luxembourg is preparing for modernisation
On 10 December 2024, a meeting took place between the Luxembourg Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, and representatives of the OGBL trade union. The main topic was the future of the inter-municipal transport union TICE, which plays an important role in the country's public transport system.
The parties agreed on the need to increase the financial participation of the state in the TICE budget, which is already two-thirds supported by the national budget. The Minister emphasised that with further increases in state funding it is important to maintain the strategic role of the state in the management of the union in order to ensure efficiency and transparency.
The OGBL union supported the proposal, emphasising that public responsibility should be linked to compliance with social policy standards and the development of sustainable transport.
One of the key themes of the meeting was the reaffirmation of social responsibility. Participants agreed that the current working conditions for TICE employees will remain unchanged and any form of privatisation of the union is ruled out. This ensures stability for both workers and service users.
Among the priorities is the transition to environmentally friendly transport. One of the steps will be the renewal of the TICE bus fleet with the introduction of electric buses. This measure is in line with the national decarbonisation strategy.
For the first time, the ministry has access to TICE's financial data, an important step towards greater transparency. This will allow for closer co-operation between the government and trade unions, reflecting the interests of workers and passengers.
