Since the new year, the Luxembourg government has introduced several key updates to social benefits and pensions. These measures are aimed at improving the living conditions of the population against a backdrop of rising living costs and rising inflation.

The minimum wage for unskilled workers is now €2,637.79 and for skilled workers €3,165.35. Luxembourg thus maintains its leadership in minimum wages among European countries. The next increase is expected in spring 2025.

The minimum pension for full-time service cannot be lower than €2,293.55. For the first time, a "13th month" is added to the basic pension income, which amounts to a minimum of €81.65 monthly, which is particularly important for elderly citizens with low incomes.

The monthly child allowance has increased to €299.86 for each child. In addition, there are additional allowances:

  • for children from 6 to 11 years old - +€22.67,
  • for children over 12 years old - +€56.57.

These measures are designed to ease the financial burden on families, especially those facing increased schooling and child development costs.

The social income support (REVIS) for a single person is now €1,849.29. The amount varies depending on the composition of the family and the presence of children.

People with severe disabilities receive a monthly allowance of €1,850.71. They are also entitled to compensation for certain services and costs.

The cost of living allowance remained at €1,817 and the energy bonus at €300 or €600, depending on the family's circumstances. These payments were introduced to compensate for the increase in utility and energy tariffs.

These changes were a response to ongoing inflationary pressures and rising prices of essential goods. In particular, pension supplements and extended child allowances help to keep the budgets of middle- and low-income families sustainable.

Full information on all social benefits is available on the IGSS website, allowing citizens to familiarise themselves with the conditions in detail and apply for support if necessary.
